How To Treat Eczema in Teens

By

Teenagers suffering this inflammatory skin condition are often times reclusive and have low levels of self-esteem. They are often ridiculed by their peers who do not understand the nature of their allergy. They really want to know how to cure eczema.

There are times when allergies are genetically acquired meaning parents have it and their parents had it too. It is necessary to find ways on how to treat teen eczema since this period is the most important time of his life - this is when he shapes his identity and it would be such a shame if having such skin allergies can really doom him for life.

Rashes brought about by Eczema are dry, flaky, thick-skinned, and are very much prone to bleeding. It disrupts the normal sleeping patterns of teenagers since they can be up all night scratching the infected areas still it goes raw.

The usual places of the body that is prone to rashes are the neck, face, trunk and joint creases like elbows and behind the knees. Topic agents such as Cortisone can be a possible form of treatment to relieve the itchy feeling. It must be partnered with anti-histamine to relieve the swelling.

How To Treat Excema

Make it a point to apply cold compress on the infected area since it will ease the pain and discomfort. Also keep in mind of the allergens that seem to be causing such rashes. Most often than not, it may be the soap used, the type of fabric worn, and the food eaten. Eliminate the tricky ones first like eggs, fish, and chicken to find out if any one of these is the culprit. Lastly, let the teenager understand that it is not the end of his life since there still are ways how to treat teen eczema. He just has to force a grin and bear the pain first.

Good hub. It's such a shame that teens are not so willing to see a doctor for their conditions. Although allergy is not a curable disease, it's relatively easy to diagnose the allergens by having a prick test, which takes about 30 minutes. Then if they stay away from getting in contact with those allergens that trigger the allergic reaction, teens can get rid of eczema for a very long time and regain their self esteem.

I don't think you can really expect teens to act rationally Savings Lady Eczema becomes a huge image problem and you are right, the solutions aren't erally that difficult to find

Hey 2 years ago

I am a teen and I have eczema. I have been to doctors and all they tell me to do is use the steroids. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE FOR YOU!! So don't stereotype and say that we won't get help when the truth is that the help we get doesn't help AT ALL!!

I'm 16 and I have eczema all over my face and neck. It started when I was a baby, but the symptoms left until was 13, when they started up again. I've tried everything to treat it, including steroids (which only make it worse), and herbal medicine, but they don't seem to completely relieve my symptoms. I hope I can speak for all of the teens and people in the world who are suffering from this terrible disease. It's hard living in a world in which you feel all dry and itchy every morning when you get up, and then have to face the embarrassment by your peers in school. I really really hope my eczema clears up when I get older. I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE LIKE THIS FOREVER!!!

I'm 15 and I've had eczema for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, it was only in the joint areas but then as i grew older and became a teenager it started to spread everywhere. And i agree, doctors keep telling you one thing: use the steroid creams! Which are expensive and only make me itch even more b/c it dries the skin out even further! sometimes if the cream is so strong it would discolor your skin like it did mine! the area with eczema is ligther than the rest of my skin! I asked my pedatrician if she recommended any dermatologists but all she said that i needed was the cream. Which is totally unreasonable b/c ive been using them since i was 5 years old and they dont work! And we teens ARE trying to find a cure, its just taking a little while.

Im 15 and ive had eczema since i was a baby. it was bad then and as i got older it wasnt as bad ... now its gotten worse again and im fed up of it all. i have it everywhere and for the past year the doctors have been giving me different creams ... they've all made it worse. i was put on steroid tablets last week and they improved it a bit but i was only aloud to use them for 5 days as they were really strong .. now im off them and my skins twice as bad as what it was. so anyone who says that we teens dont try and help ourselves with this needs some cop on!

i have been to the docter and the dermatologist and all they say is steroid cream and cetaphil and aveeno...this doesnt help at all...im 16 and still get some pimples here and there so if i put on anything to help me eczema i break out in pimples...I CAN NEVER WIN. i have had an alergy testing done and they tested me for everything they could and i wasnt allergic to any of it...i have tried everything and im becoming hopeless. im not saying i want my skin to be perfect, I JUST WANT MY SKIN TO BE HEALTHY so i can have confidence. PARENTS/ADULTS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT ITS LIKE GROWING UP IN THIS GENERATION!

i just wish there was this one cream or lotion that would get rid of eczema over night...because i hate the feeling of trying a new cream that says it will help your eczema in 3 days and going to bed thinking "my skin will be a little better tomorrow and then in a week it should be alot better!" then wakeing up and looking in the mirror and feeling like your gonna cry because it will just never go away... and you try to cover it up with makeup but it just never works...

sorry for this being long i just have been going through this for a long time and i just want it to be gone... :(

Elizabeth... I know exactly how you feel.. I have it too, and the only think that makes mine stop itching is Egyptian Magic, it's not a cure, but it helps.

As for you adults, I have been to every doctor, I'm 18 and I have had this condition for 4 years. You have no idea how hard it was going through the college process wearing scarfs through all of my auditions and interviews so I didn't distract the people I wanted to impress with my red raw skin.

I have been to 20 different doctors, alternative healers, allergists, and more. There just isn't enough information about it right now. For someone to say that it's an "easy" fix is wrong, because every case is individual.

For example, my friend Eric had it really bad all over his hands, and he got it to go away when he stopped drinking milk. But my case is not an allergic reaction, and steriods just make it worse.

I hope the sheer amount of people suffering from this condition inspires doctors to research this condition more. Only people who have the condition know how dibilitating it is, and frankly, in this day and age I find it almost shameful that there is no solution for this as you put it "easy" problem.

Hey everyone, I am a 15 year old livig with eczema. I have been reasearching this for a hile and i have realized that eczema rejects oils. this means that it will NOT soak up any of the OIL BASED creams we use.so instead look for WATER BASED creams. I personally use CETAPHIL. It will come in a cylinder tub. This really works! my eczema has TOTALLY cleared up from my face. Use the steroids as a last resort. Please tell me if this helps. It helped me. Good luck!

I'm 14 and I've had eczema like for half a year now. I am just so sick and tired of it. And to all those adults thinking that we don't try, shut up! I have tried many different steroid creams and medicines but none of them work. I give up, goodbye mad world.
